Songwriters Madness – “Pour Me A River”

A while back, I took Kevin G Moore‘s Songwriters Challenge, and wrote a song with the theme “Gods and Goddesses.” This video is the result, taped live in Kevin’s kitchen. He and Molly Pinto Madigan added background vocals after the video was taped (I am not haunted by the Pips). Due to some nifty editing, I am also accompanying myself on the djembe.

It was exciting to write to a topic someone else gave me. It wasn’t anything I had an instant inspiration for, at least not when Kevin first gave me the topic. I had nothing for a long time, until time was almost through. Then, after a few weeks of kicking it around in my head, I blurted it out one night when I came home after an open mic. That said, it’s still a bit of a work in progress. There are a couple of lines I’m not thrilled with, although if I sing something too many times one way, it’s hard to change it. I’m hoping I haven’t already set those lines in stone, but otherwise, I’m happy with it, and I’ll be up for the next challenge, for which I am already late and panicking again.

A couple of shows

NickWalnutLevonOneTwo shows to tell you about. First, I will be part of the bill with four singer/songwriters at the Cantab Lounge on Thursday, July 24. The official line-up is Anna Snow, Kevin G. Moore, Molly Pinto Madigan, and myself. Anna kicks the show off at 8PM, and I go on at 11PM. More info here.

After that, I have a very important show at the Walnut Street Cafe in Lynn on August 2. I am finishing up the recording sessions for my first full-length album, Blue Skies and Broken Arrows, which I expect to release in the fall. But I have one last song to record, and I will be doing that live at the Walnut. The song is “The Good News,” and it’s sing-along, so I need everyone to be there to add their voice to the recording. Come be immortalized in sound! Plus, I will have special guests Paul Hansen (of The Grownup Noise) and Jon Waterman. RSVP to the Facebook event here.

Here’s an early version of the song we’ll be recording:

I Have A New Web Site!

I’ve been needing to address my Web site for a while, and now I have! With a new album on the way and new shows in the works, I should be fairly busy updating this site soon, so please keep checking back.
